How To Make Delicious Chinese Sticky Rice With Char Siu

Where does sticky rice come from?

Xa xiu is a type of roasted or grilled pork, originating from Guangdong province, China. In the Sino-Vietnamese sense, char siu means “burning/grilling string”. The Chinese make this dish by taking pork, removing the bones, marinating spices, pinning it and grilling it on fire. Commonly used meat is shoulder meat, marinated with honey, five spices, soy sauce, coo, black sauce, red food and wine.

When imported into Vietnam, char siu meat is often sold in Chinese roast meat shops, sold with roasted duck and roasted pork. Cha siu meat can be used as a filling for dumplings, served with noodles, white rice. In addition, char siu is also eaten with sticky rice to create a delicious and attractive breakfast dish that is loved by many Vietnamese people.

How to make Chinese style sticky rice with char siu

Ingredients for making char siu sticky rice

– 1kg pork belly (or thigh meat, butt meat)

– 2 tablespoons ketchup

– 1 tablespoon cinnamon apricot wine

– 1 tablespoon oyster sauce

– 1 teaspoon seasoning

– 1/2 teaspoon pepper

– 1 tablespoon sugar

– 1/2 teaspoon minced garlic

– 1 tablespoon fish sauce

– 200ml of cooked water or fresh coconut water

– 2 tablespoons seasoning powder for marinating char siu meat (bought at food stores)

– 1 clove of garlic, 1 onion, 1 cilantro root, 2 parts of crushed scallions

– Sticky rice: 300gr glutinous rice, 270ml fried onion juice, onion fat, sour food served.

How to cook Chinese style char siu

Step 1: Prepare pork

– Buy pork, wash, cut into thin, long pieces to eat. Marinate pork with spices and minced garlic and cilantro. Marinate the meat overnight to infuse the flavors.

Step 2: Rim char siu

– Put a pan on the stove, add 1 tablespoon of cooking oil and heat. After the oil is hot, put the pieces of meat into it and fry it on both sides (about 3-4 minutes), then pour the marinade with 200ml of cooked water (or fresh coconut water is better), cover the pan and cook. on medium heat.

Step 3: Cook sticky rice

– Sticky rice you wash, soak overnight for soft rice. After about 8 hours, wash the rice thoroughly with water and put it in the rice cooker with water and a little salt. Turn on the normal cooking switch like cooking rice.
